Technology Standards and Resources (BP3)

Through the evolution of technology, people have created many resources in order to help others navigate the internet. Rather than searching aimlessly around looking for things, often times there will be one website that has many resources to help you out along the way. One of those resources for education are the ELA Standards with Technology. After carefully looking through the long list of many standards, I came to the conclusion that I have performed many of these activities in my own academic career. Specifically, standards that deal with "integrating multiple sources of information" like LAFS.1112.SL.1.2 have been increasingly popular among teachers as a way to integrate technology into the classroom. I would love to incorporate this into my classroom in the future. I think this would be important as it is a way for students of all learning types to present and understand ideas. However, when it comes to standards like LAFS.1112.W.3.8 that focus on "using advanced searches effectively" I sometimes have some issues. In my personal experience, I have not learned much about how to tell whether something is a good source or not. I have also not yet learned how to use certain search engines that have advanced settings efficiently or effectively. These are things I would like to work on throughout the rest of my academic career so that I am able to help students in the same position as I am.

CPALMS has recently become my new favorite resource for teaching. There is so much information in one website and so many other resources to use not only for your future career in education but also studying for classes now. The resource that I chose to potentially use in my future career as a psychology teacher is a video discussing PTSD. I chose this resource because it incorporates two important topics within psychology; PTSD and correlation vs. causation. With many of our veterans coming home from serving and ending up homeless on the streets, it is important to understand PTSD now more than ever. It is also always important to talk about correlation vs. causation in every psychology class as it is a very popular misconception. Just because somethings show correlation, does not mean one thing causes the other. I have attached the link to the video below.

As part of our homework this past weekend, we were asked to create a newsletter for a potential classroom. Through this assignment, I learned many new skills in Word that I am excited to continue using in the future. For example, my favorite tool was renaming a link to something simpler and more visually appealing. Instead of putting a link to a website with all of the random letters that spans the whole page, you can rename it to summarize what the link is or even just say something along the lines of "to access the website click 'here'" and turn the 'here' into the link. Another tool I learned was how to break the page into sections. This was very helpful and much easier than figure out how to tab and space everything out separately. Instead, you can just go to the setting on the computer that inserts a break in the page and it allows you to start a new section of the page fresh. Most of the other tools we used for the newsletter were ones I had a history of using for other assignments. I am very excited to continue using these tools in my career.
