Who Am I? (BP0)
If you couldn't tell already, my name is Morgan Welter. I am currently a sophomore/junior at Florida State University. You may be confused why I said sophomore/junior. Trust me, so am I. I am studying Psychology with a minor in education. I originate from Chanhassen, Minnesota, a city just outside of the Twin Cities. On campus, I am involved in the National Society of Leadership & Success. I am also in the process of completing my Global Citizenship Certificate. One interesting fact about me is that I spent my entire first year of college studying abroad. For two semesters, I studied Athletic Training in Panama and then finished off the year in Spain.
Growing up, technology has always been incorporated into my education. In elementary school, we used projectors that could be wheeled around on carts that you write on with Vis-à-vis markers. When I moved up to middle school. we used the projectors that connect to computers. In high school is when technology really became an essential part of my education. Between online discussion boards, Google Classroom, online classes, and making podcasts, it was hard to go one class period without needing my phone or laptop for anything. The same goes for college.
In this class, I hope to learn about there are different uses for technology other than what we were originally taught. For example, how twitter is used for education, rather than for social media and meme sharing. I would also like to practice writing blog posts like these to eventually create my own personal blog (which I have wanted to do for awhile now). The last thing I would like to learn is how I can apply all of the things we learn in this class to my potential field of psychology.

Hey Morgan, I am still interested in how you are a sophomore/junior? Also how was studying abroad? I want to do it but i was scared to move to Tallahassee, and you went to two different parts of the world. In high school i did not use technology as much as you but i do remember those projectors in elementary school, i didn't know that was the correct name of those markers.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I remember the name of those markers is because my grandpa used them also and had them laying all around the house. I am a sophomore because this is only my second year of college (and my first year in Tallahassee). However, credit-wise I am technically a junior and will be graduating next spring. Studying abroad was amazing! I won't lie and say I didn't miss home and regretted doing it at certain times. However, looking back it was probably the best decision I have ever made. Let me know if you have any specific questions about it and we can chat sometime. Where were you interested in studying abroad? Where did you move to Tallahassee from?
DeleteI would like to go to London and Spain. I have some ability to understand Spanish but i have a hard time speaking it. I moved from Jacksonville, which is not far at all
DeleteI met some of my best friends in Spain! I spent this past summer there to finish my first year abroad experience. Those people that I met spent their first year abroad in London and they loved it. I might go back and study abroad there eventually. If you are worried about not being able to communicate to people speaking other languages, Spain is probably the best place to go. Almost everyone in Europe learns English while they go to school so you won't have trouble communicating.
DeleteYou took me back to memory lane with the projectors that were wheeled around on carts! It's so cool to look at how the classroom has advanced and changed to Google Classroom and VCRs. What exactly is the Global Citizenship Certificate? Does it have something to do with studying abroad?
ReplyDeleteSo the Global Citizenship Certificate is something that goes on your transcript when you graduate and you have to take 2 required courses and 2 electives that revolve around communication and culture and international awareness. It is also required that you have some form of sustained experience abroad but they are pretty flexible when it comes to that piece. For instance, I know they have accepted a sustained experience as a week long volunteer trip to a different part of the US than where you are from. If you have any other questions or if you are interested in getting involved with it, I can definitely help you out.
